A Season Packed with Fun

Season Kickoff

A sign-up meeting is held in July, the week before the start of the season. However, information can be gained at any time throughout the year by emailing carmen.tcomeaux@gmail.com or texting 850.866.2483 to ask questions or if you would like to attend and observe a Sunday practice (4:30-5:00) at First Church of the Nazarene. During the July meeting, book and T-shirt orders are taken, practice and meet schedules are discussed, materials for the first practice are given, and new quizzers get familiar with the jump equipment and quizzing format. Registration forms for The Smoky Mountain Quizfest are also collected.

The Smoky Mountain Quizfest

There are three practices prior to our phenomenal kickoff event: The Smoky Mountain Quizfest. This event is a time of building friendships, having a blast with adventurous activities, and getting fully immersed into tournament quizzing. It is held during the second weekend in August in Louisville, Tennessee.  This competition draws quiz teams from across the Southeast region-from Kentucky down to Florida. It is a fun way to kick off and build excitement for the competitive Bible quizzing season ahead. Quizfest is not an official district event, but an optional great time. We create Quizfest teams based on individual performances during the matches held during the first three league practices. These teams will likely not remain the same for the regular season.

Waywalker Quiz Team Practices and Matches

Practice and local matches are held on Sundays except for holiday weekends or when a district-level competition was held the Saturday before. The time on Sunday is influenced by what time evening services start at quizzers' home churches. 2021-2022 Sunday practice times are from 4:00-5:30pm.

Central Gulf Coast District-level competitions

Held on various Saturdays throughout the season either locally or at an Alabama site within a day trip. We anticipate 4 district-level competitions throughout the 2021-2022 season (9/11, 11/6, 1/22, 2/12, tentatively) The individual points per match averages at these official district events are what determines which quizzers qualify for the A (Gold) team or B (Silver) team at Regionals in April.

Central Florida Competitions

There are several opportunities to participate in special event competitions for quizzers with the highest point-per-match averages. In the 2021-2022 season, these events are overnight trips tentatively scheduled for 8/27-28, 9/24-25, 10/22-23, 11/19-20; 2/4-5; 3/4-5.

Regional and National Competitions

While the regular season ends in early March, top competitors may qualify for a regional competition in April (in Nashville). If the quizzer excels at regionals, he or she could qualify for the national competition in June (location changes yearly).

Blessed are those who keep His testimonies,
who seek Him with their whole heart,
who also do no wrong...

but walk in His ways!
(Psalm 119:2-3)
